Chassis design

Conquering the most difficult terrain

Chassis Design
For everyone wanting to get to their destination without making any detours: with its unrivalled chassis design including portal axles, permanent all-wheel-drive and many other technical refinements, nothing can stop the Unimog U 300/U 400/U 500 from completing its job safely – not even snow-packed roads or extreme terrain can. You can depend on that.
Portal axles
Guarantee outstanding ground clearance for tackling the most difficult terrain. Even with attached implements or mounted bodies – thanks to its high axle load ratings.
Permanent all-wheel drive
Provides excellent traction and directional stability: for instance during the winter season when driving on snow and ice.
Coil springs
Telescopic shock absorbers give the narrow Unimog the greatest possible track width so that all four wheels are in permanent contact with the ground when off-roading.
Single tyres
Instead of the twin tyres used by 4-WD trucks. The advantage: better traction due to lower rolling resistance. And you can purchase the proper tyres to match the type of terrain.
Tyre pressure regulation system - tirecontrol
Lower your tyre pressure at the touch of a button while in motion. This means you don't sink into soft surfaces. Plus, your traction and propulsion are greatly improved.
ABS and ALB
Greater safety and driving stability with the anti-lock braking system (ABS). The automatic load-sensitive brake control (ALB) ensures evenly distributed braking power for every type of load.
